How to Find the Perfect Gift

Shopping for the perfect gift for someone takes a bit of thought and planning.

Gift Planning

Try to not wait until the last minute to figure out what you want to buy someone. Have a calendar with gift giving occasions clearly marked on it.
Listen for hints. Children are especially good at giving hints about what they want for their birthday or holidays. Spouses are too, but usually a bit sneakier than kids. Pay attention to these hints and write them down.
Know what your family members and friends are interested in. Do they have a particular hobby? Is there a particular sport they are involved in? Maybe a sports team they support with passion? Hobbies and interests can help lead you to the perfect gift.
Don’t hesitate to ask others for ideas. Talk to someone who is close to the person you are getting a gift for to see if they have any suggestions.
Keep your eyes open when you are out shopping. If you see something and it jumps out as being the perfect gift for Uncle Joe, but it’s not Uncle Joe’s birthday for six months, buy it! It’s never too early to buy a gift that you know is just right for someone. Now the challenge is, when the birthday or holiday comes around you have to remember that you have it tucked away.

Gift Ideas

Once you have a general idea of what someone’s interests are, you can begin to narrow down your thoughts until you have come up with that perfect gift. Here are a few ideas:

Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are fun because you can personalize them and make them a great gift for anyone. Consider a few DVD’s, popcorn and candy for a movie lover, or baby necessities in a basket lined with receiving blankets for a baby shower. The sky’s the limit on how creative you can get with a gift basket.

Gift Cards

Don’t let anyone tell you that gift cards are impersonal. Some people are very difficult to buy clothing for, yet they love to shop. What better gift than a gift card to their favorite clothing store. How about a gift card to a young couple’s favorite restaurant and as part of the gift you offer to babysit for their children? As with any gift, as long as you put thought into the gift card, it will be perfect.
Consider the recipient of your gift and you will do fine!
